COLLECTIVE NOUNS & [A]VOCATION

Collective Nouns brought together diverse and distinguished artists working across a wide variety of media representing each artist’s unique experiences, influences, and interests. This exhibition offered a peek into the studio art and design practices of MSU Denver’s art faculty and staff, celebrating our vibrant visual art community. During the Collective Nouns exhibition, I not only had the opportunity to brand and design the collateral, I also co-curated the [a]vocation exhibition with my co-worker, Andrew Cline, in CVA’s 965 gallery. I participated in the concept, naming, artist selection, art handling, floor design, and even hand lettering the title onto the 965 door.

Since the 965 gallery is next to the main gallery, we had to curate an exhibition that reflected off of Collective Nouns[a]vocation, coalesced between the word avocation, meaning a hobby or minor occupation, and vocation, meaning a strong feeling of suitability for a particular career or occupation. Or in other words, mixing work with pleasure. The devoted artists selected for the show were student faculty in the art department at MSU Denver. Featured artists: Zak Ashburn, Andrew L. Cline, Isabella (Rachael) Day, Gabe Hutchings, Cindy Loya, Allison Nicolosi-Risinger, Mary Sullivan, and Anthony Telles.
